Highgate Wood form group: Storage jars

Storage jars with thick everted rims or a prominent beaded lip. It is rather difficult to reconstruct these vessels, but rimless body sherds of one almost complete profile, suggest a height of over 60cm for some examples. The principal division is between:

  • 7.1: thick everted rims, often decorated on the shoulder
  • 7.2: a rare type, with a beaded lip, sloping neck, and rouned shoulder zone demarcated by grooves
  • 7.3: rim thickened internally, relatively narrow neck above a high rouned shoulder marked by grooves
  • 7.4: rim tickened internally (as above), with low rounded shoulder
  • 7.5: rim sherds with beaded lip
