Highgate Wood form: HW.19 Cylindrical bowl

  • Form: A bowl with a cylindrical profile. Details of the rim and upper body vary, but in the most complete examples there is a central decorated zone, above a sharp carination, where the wall curves towards the base. The ultimate inspiration of this form is probably the sigillata form Drag.30, which also has a plain upper band and a central decorated zone above a carination. At Highgate, the decoration on 1285 can be linked with some of the decorated flasks, type 8.2.
