Highgate Wood form: HW.8.3 Pedestal jar
- Form: Loosely related to the flasks, is the pedestal jar from the vicinity of Kiln 4 1130. This features several bands of cordons and grooves on the shoulder, an almost cylindrical body with a broad band of barbotine panel decoration, and several further bands of grooves and cordons on the lower body, above a tall hollow pedestal base with an internal omphalos. This vessel is almost unique on the site but there is a further pedestal base that may be from a similar vessel 1490, and some of the uassigned rims 8R could be sherds from bases of this type. This rather flamboyant vessel was made in several parts, luted together, and demonstrates the high technical skill of the Highgate potters.
